Foster parents who can provide the proper state-issued identification and credentials must accompany the visiting child, and for a limited time, parents receive 50% off annual family passes as well.

The new Austin Aquarium will offer no-cost admission to all foster children accompanied by foster parents who present valid state-issued foster care certification as proof of their status. This courtesy will be made available to foster parents when the Austin Aquarium opens to the general public on December 22, 2013. The aquarium owners have also announced that the parents and families of foster children buying passes this December will receive 50% off all annual family passes, so that they can bring their foster children into the Austin Aquarium as much as they like and receive a major discount for the entire family.
The all-new Austin Aquarium features thousands of species including reptiles, warm and cold water fish, various exotic birds, and much more. Among the exhibits, visitors can experience: Sharks, Stingrays, Giant Pacific Octopus, Corals, and other invertebrates. They may also feed the Lorikeets and Toucans as well as many species of tropical fish, and view a rain forest exhibit.
The Austin Aquarium founder has done research on the calming affect of aquariums, and as an experienced foster parent, he knows that many foster children come from very stressful situations. The goal is to provide a way for families to have a relaxing experience that may help them bond better. Studies show that aquariums have a calming effect and can cut down on stress levels. Since the aquarium’s recent opening, the daily kid-friendly Shark Stories at 11am, 1pm and 4pm have been a popular stop for many families.
