Texas Man Arrested For Giving Change To A Homeless Man

A Texas man was arrested and detained for over an hour for the simple act of giving change to a homeless individual. Police suspected Houston’s Greg Snider was actually giving drugs to the homeless man that approached him and asked him for money in a local parking lot.
According to Raw Story, Houston police vehicles were parked nearby the lot when they saw a homeless man approach Snider’s car. Snider, who was talking on the phone in his vehicle at the time, rolled down his window and gave the man 75 cents. Snider then drove away but was immediately pulled over by a squad car.
Snider recounted the story, explaining that the police officer was extremely angry and energetic during the initial arrest.
“He’s screaming. He’s yelling. He’s telling me to get out of the car. He’s telling me to put my hands on the hood. They’re like, ‘We saw you downtown. We saw what you did.’ And I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? I gave a homeless man 75 cents,” Snider said.
Despite Snider’s attempt to explain his actions, he was handcuffed and forced to stand on the side of the road as drug-sniffing dogs and police officers searched through his car for over an hour. Eventually, the officer gave in to Snider’s initial story.
“He said everything was a misunderstanding and that I was free to go. They were laughing and everything,” Snider said.
According to Yahoo News, Snider willfully allowed the police officers to search his car. The police, however, spent a lengthy amount of time ripping through the vehicle, potentially causing damage.
Due to his innocence as well as the damage caused, Snider filed a complaint against the police force, but it is unclear how the case will proceed. It is also unclear whether or not the Houston Police were attempting to bust another drug deal in the area, or if they simply were mistaken when witnessing Snider’s actions.
