Black Man Found With Slit Throat, But Texas County Says Drug Overdose (Video)

Alfred Wright, an African-American man, went missing on Nov. 7, 2013 in Sabine County, Texas.
Wright, a physical therapist from Jasper, Texas, was on his way to meet a client, when his truck broke down (video below).
Wright called his wife Lauren to come pick him up, but she was tending to their two sick children, so she asked his parents to help him. Lauren then called Alfred back.
"The last time I called him, I just heard heavy breathing. He was in distress of some sort. He was not responding to anything I was saying," Lauren told CNN.
About 20 minutes later, Wright's parents found their son's truck, but not their son, near the Hemphill liquor store.
Wright’s watch and I.D. were found the next day at a nearby ranch, but police did not find a body and ended the search after only three days. Wright’s family started their own search team and found his body only 25 yards away from where he vanished.
According to the county's autopsy, Wright died of a drug overdose of cocaine and methamphetamine.
Wright, who didn't use drugs, was missing an ear, his tongue and two teeth. He also had a slit throat, which was caused by animals, claimed the medical examiner.
The Wright family found it odd that the animals undressed their son as well. His body was found in boxer shorts, tennis shoes and a single sock.
A forensic pathologist hired by the Wright family to perform a second autopsy found severe head and neck trauma, but has not been allowed to look at pictures from the first autopsy by the county.
Local law enforcement still hasn't searched Wright’s truck, interviewed the people who found Wright's body or taken any statements from those who last spoke with him.
“Due to the allegations against the sheriff, and to avoid any appearance of impropriety, I have been requested and have agreed to turn this case over to the Texas Attorney General’s Office,” Sabine County District Attorney Kevin Dutton said in a press release on Monday, noted KLTV. “I have requested that office handle all further investigations and/or prosecutions concerning the Alfred Wright case.”
The reason the US Justice Department is looking into this case is because Wright's family met with Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) who believes this may be a race-based murder, notes ABC News.
