Rick Perry Vetoes Buy American Bill Approved 145-0 By Texas House
Rick Perry vetoed the “Buy American” bill on Saturday, which would have given preference to American-made goods, despite a unanimous bipartisan vote in the Texas House.

The bill also passed in the Senate with 23-7 vote, and was sponsored and supported by Republicans.

"Gov. Perry by his veto has undercut the creation and preservation of manufacturing jobs in Texas and the U.S." Texas AFL-CIO President Becky Moeller said. "These jobs are critical to our economic success.”

Critics of Perry say supporting American-made goods and jobs comes second to supporting his “corporate buddies”, who outsource jobs and use cheap international labor. Considering the bill would have simply favored American goods that were the same price and quality as those made by an international source, this can be the only explanation.

Ironically, when Perry commented on the IRS incident, he said “the federal government is assaulting the rights of Americans by using the tools of government to squelch dissent.”

The veto followed another dismissed piece of legislation, which conveniently legalizes money laundering in Texas elections. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Kel Seliger (R), would have required 501(c)4 social welfare groups that spend more than $25,000 in one year to disclose donor contributions of over $1,000.

"This is a sad day for integrity and transparency in Texas," Seliger said.
