Republican Greg Abbott, who is running for governor in Texas, will appear at campaign events today with NRA board member and rocker Ted Nugent, even though the singer has admitted to sexual relationships with underage girls.

Nugent and Abbott will appear together today in Wichita Falls and Denton, Texas.

The Dallas Morning News reports that a big part of Abbott's campaign has been boasting about his record, as attorney general, of prosecuting sex criminals and keeping young girls safe from sexual predators.

“I was addicted to girls. It was hopeless. It was beautiful,” Nugent told the 1998 VH1 program Behind the Music (video below). “I got the stamp of approval of their parents… I guess they figured better Ted Nugent than some drug-infested punk in high school.”

One of the young girls who slept with Nugent says that what he did back then would be considered criminal today.

In a statement, Lone Star Project director Matt Angle said, “Greg Abbott has crisscrossed our state publicly promising to protect Texas women and children while he’s been making plans to appear at campaign events with an admitted sexual predator."

Nugent also has a history of making racial comments about black people, including President Obama.

In 2013, during his 'Black Power 2013' Tour, Nugent made several racist comments about black people and lectured African-Americans to be "honest and law-abiding."

TalkingPointsMemo.com notes that Nugent called President Obama a "Chicago communist-raised, communist-educated, communist-nurtured subhuman mongrel…ACORN community organizer gangster" and a "chimpanzee."

According to The Los Angeles Times, Abbott’s campaign communications director Michael Hirsch said in a statement, "Ted Nugent is a forceful advocate for individual liberty and constitutional rights, especially the Second Amendment rights cherished by Texans. While he may sometimes say things or use language that Greg Abbott would not endorse or agree with, we appreciate the support of everyone who supports protecting our Constitution.”

However, Hirsch did not specifically address Nugent bedding minors or his racist comments.
