Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) recently weighed in on the GOP's far-reaching abortion bill that is currently being talked about in the House.
Burgess supports the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,” citing his experience as an OB/GYN, because he says male fetuses pleasure themselves as early as 15 weeks.
“Watch a sonogram of a 15-week baby, and they have movements that are purposeful,” Burgess told the House Rules Committee on Monday. “They stroke their face. If they’re a male baby, they may have their hand between their legs. If they feel pleasure, why is it so hard to think that they could feel pain?”
The bill directly challenges Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion up to the time a fetus is considered viable, at 24 weeks into pregnancy. Burgess believes abortion should be banned at 15 weeks.
The White House threatened to veto, calling the bill “an assault on a woman’s right to choose.”
