Kid Won't Eat Healthy
The Carroll Independent School District (ISD) in North Texas is dropping out of the federal lunch program because the children refuse to eat healthy food such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables.
“You have to follow exactly what is in this meal pattern, if you are the national school lunch program. With the new program in place, the new meal pattern, our participation started to drop. And the other thing was there was food waste. Children were not eating the food. If the children aren’t eating the food, there’s no nutrition,” Nutrition Services Director Mary Brunig told CBS Dallas-Fort Worth.
Brunig says the school district is going to develop its own healthy food program, but it will apparently require the approval of the children, who seem to hold veto power over the adults.
However, kids in numerous other Texas school districts are eating the healthy food.
According CBS Dallas-Forth Worth, these school districts are sticking with the federal plan or even exceeding it in terms of health: Allen ISD, Birdville ISD, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, Denton ISD, Dallas, ISD, Duncanville ISD, Grand Prairie ISD, Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, Lewisville ISD, Mansfield ISD Mesquite ISD, Midlothian ISD, Northwest ISD, Richardson ISD, Weatherford ISD and Terrell ISD.
Many of those school districts eased the program in over months and found other creative ways to get kids to eat healthy and stay on the federal program.
